What to Expect on the Day of Microneedling
Our team will likely start your microneedling treatment by applying a topical anesthetic. This helps numb the area and eliminate any pain. It’s important to remember at Aesthetics MedSpa, your comfort is our own; we don’t cut corners when it comes to making your experience as relaxing as possible. At the time that your face or target area is ready, we will then use a tool that contains tiny needles known as a derma pen or derma-roller (which device used will depend on the patient’s needs). We will run the tool evenly across your skin to create tiny holes in the stratum corneum, which is the outermost layer of the skin. Patients have described the sensation as a warm, light scratch as the roller or pen is moved around their faces. The entire process takes roughly 10 to 30 minutes and, when completed, creates a layer of fresh, smoother-looking skin to reduce scars, wrinkles, and blemishes.

When you are finished, we may apply saline pads or a gel face mask, depending on the size of the area treated. You may notice some redness and some minor skin irritation for 2 to 3 days after the treatment; this is generally normal and should regulate in the days following your appointment. We recommend the following recovery tips to achieve the most successful results:
- Use topical creams and lotions to keep your skin soft and moisturized; our Aesthetics MedSpa team will provide you with the necessary resources for post-care products.
- Avoid washing your face with anything other than lukewarm water and gentle cleanser for 48 hours
- Don’t apply makeup for 48 to 72 hours after the procedure.
- Avoid direct sunlight for 48 to 72 hours after the procedure. Don’t forget to SPF if you’re in the sunlight!
