Are Lip Fillers painful?

Thanks to the topical anesthetic we use, you shouldn’t feel any pain, but the needle insertion does create a pinching sensation that can cause your eyes to water. We do our absolute best to make sure you have a very comfortable treatment, but this may occur.

How many appointments will I need?

You will only need one appointment to achieve the appearance you are looking for, but the dermal filler will be absorbed by your body over time. If you like your appearance, you may want to consider getting touch-up appointments every six months or so.

How long until I see results?

You will see some major changes immediately after leaving our office, but you may have an “overfilled” appearance. Over the next few days, the filler will begin to settle and any swelling or bruising will go away leaving you with luscious, full lips that will last you between six months to over a year.

Can I combine Lip Fillers with other procedures?

Of course! Our Lansing Lip Filler patients will frequently combine their Lip Fillers with other facial Fillers or BOTOX for a well-volumized face, but if you are looking for another aesthetic, please bring this up during your consultation. What’s the First Step?

The first step in getting Lip Fillers in Lansing is to schedule your consultation with Aesthetics MedSpa. When you come in for this appointment, you will meet with either Dr. Ronan or one of our Aesthetic team members and discuss your goals for the treatment. They will examine your lips, ask questions regarding your medical history to avoid any unnecessary risks, and create your treatment plan based on your conversation. If you agree with the plan, then you can either receive your lip fillers right away or reschedule with our Patient Coordinator for a time that’s better for you.

What to Expect on the Day of Lip Fillers

When you’re ready for your Lip Fillers, we will begin by applying a topical anesthetic to your lips to take away some of the stinging sensations that come from the needle insertion. It should take about 15 – 30 minutes to numb your lips. Next, the Aesthetician will use a syringe with a very thin needle to inject the filler into strategic places on your lips. The spots can include the edges of your lips (vermillion border), the curve in the center of your upper lip (Cupid’s bow), and your oral commissures (corners of your mouth), depending on what is discussed during your consultation. After you are both satisfied with the appearance of your lips, the Aesthetician will gently massage your lips so that they absorb the filler and you will be given an ice pack to help minimize the swelling and bruising.

This treatment can take between 30 minutes and two hours.

Lip Fillers Recovery

After your treatment, you will be asked to stick around for about 15 minutes to make sure you don’t have any reactions to the filler or the treatment. Once you are cleared, you will be able to go home or do your normal routine. Your lips will be a little swollen for the first few days, but it should go away, although sometimes, it can last up to a week.

We will provide you with some instructions before you leave to help your lips heal, which will look a little something like this:

Apply an ice pack for up to 10 minutes to reduce inflammation, pain, and swelling
Avoid exercising for at least 24 hours
Avoid wearing lipstick, lip balm, or any other product on your lips for at least 24 hours
Refrain from touching or puckering your lips, including kissing and sipping from a straw
Be careful brushing your teeth
Drink plenty of water
