Introduction to Chemical Peels

We all want that “movie star” blemish-free and beautiful skin, but sometimes it requires more than just a great skincare routine. Our lives are full of stories and sometimes those stories come with scars, skin disturbances, or genetic factors that won’t go away with a good scrubbing and moisturizer. If you’re looking to lessen the appearance of these sorts of skin issues, you may need to go a little deeper. Aesthetics MedSpa strives to give our Lansing Chemical Peel patients the best results with smoother and clearer skin from their treatments. To learn more about how Chemical Peels can work for you, we encourage you to keep reading below.

Overview

What are Chemical Peels?

A Chemical Peel is a procedure in which a chemical solution is applied to the skin to remove the top layers, leaving your skin growing back even smoother and with fewer impurities. At Aesthetics MedSpa, we offer our Lansing patients several Chemical Peel options, including a VI Peel and AlphaRet Peel.

VI Peels

A VI Peel is a medium-depth chemical peel that can penetrate the top layer of skin to exfoliate and stimulate the production of new proteins. The uniquely formulated VI Peel treatments are designed to lift pigment, remove sun damage, alleviate acne and scarring, and fight fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment is gentle enough to effectively treat your face, chest, eyelids, hands, and back. All our painless medium-depth VI Peels are safe for all skin types and tones with results in as little as 7 days!

AlphaRet Peels

An AlphaRet Peel improves the overall appearance of skin tone and texture for patients with mild photodamage, fine lines, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and blemishes, as well as improve skin tone and dullness.

What to Expect on the Day of Chemical Peels

When you come into our boutique Medical Spa for your Chemical Peel treatment, we will first have you relax in our reclining chair. Your face will first be cleansed, followed by the chemical solution being carefully brushed onto your skin, which is left on for a predetermined amount of time, typically just a few minutes. You may feel a burning or stinging sensation, but the solution does include a local anesthetic, so it should alleviate the pain at least a little bit. The Aesthetician will finally apply a cool saline compress to neutralize the solution. This treatment may leave your skin with a whitish-grey tone, but this is pretty normal. If you have any concerns, the Aesthetican will be able to talk about them with you.

Chemical Peels Recovery

You will be able to leave pretty much immediately after your treatment, and you can do a majority of your normal routine the rest of the day. It is a good idea to avoid sunlight as your skin will be very sensitive to UV rays. Days after your peel, you will notice that your skin will turn red or brown, but should return to normal once the peeling process begins, which can last about a week. It is very important to let this peeling happen naturally and not pick at it, as your skin is still healing and if you peel too much, too soon, you could damage your skin or at least hinder the results.

We will provide you with some instructions to follow in the days of your recovery, which will include keeping your skin moisturized and wearing quality sunblock if you plan on being exposed to sunlight.

“ I have been seeing Dr. Ronan for Botox for migraines for years. Due to my Moyamoya disease nothing takes my pain away completely but the injections do help. He is great, and his staff is very nice. He is also my husband’s general practitioner. He is a wonderful doctor and a very nice person.”
